City to hold talks with Sturridge
English club Manchester City are set to hold contract talks with promising teenager Daniel Sturridge this week. Sturridge, 19, is hailed as one of the finest young prospects in the Premier League, and the likes of Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth were all interested in signing him during the recently concluded January transfer window.
Sturridge’s contract expires in June 2009, which means that if City do not get him to sign a new deal, he will be free to look for greener pastures in the summer. Reports are suggesting that City are prepared to offer him £20k a week + bonuses, but Sturridge apparently wants a five year £40k a week deal.
Sturridge has made 18 appearances in the Premier League so far this season- 13 of them as a substitute. He has scored three goals this season, including a crucial goal against Blackburn Rovers when City were trailing 2-0 down with minutes left on the clock.
